The mission of Cedar Grove School is to provide Siskiyou County children and Youth with holistic and creative multicultural education that is place-based, transformational, and experiential.

Our Offerings
Cedar Grove School offers Waldorf-inspired educational enrichment for K-8 children in Dunsmuir, CA. Our multi-age classroom model emphasizes social learning through movement, nature experiences, and the arts. Through a holistic curriculum based on Waldorf pedagogy, children engage in hands-on experiences that support the healthy integration of head, heart, and hands.
Our teachers demonstrate a strong respect and love for children, along with a commitment to their facilitative role in the families’ growth and learning. We focus on teaching imaginatively through the arts as a way to help learning become practical and alive, and practice an intentional honoring of each child’s unfolding process, respecting that this happens at whatever pace is right for the individual child.
Multicultural pedagogy is at the heart of our learning and includes history, mythology, foreign language, folk dancing and singing. We also offer visual and performing arts, astronomy, classic literature and poetry, music, handwork, eurythmy, and nature study in forest, field, and farm.

Our Kindergarten
In our play-based kindergarten, we seek to awaken and nourish the young child’s creative and playful nature and to nurture their sense of wonder, reverence, and gratitude. Through imaginative free play, developmental movement, storytelling, songs, painting, craftwork, cooking and baking, and lots of time in nature, the children are completely immersed in a warm and loving environment where they are free to unfold. Children have the opportunity to socialize and delight in exploring and playing with new friends.
